Your Bountiful Harvest

And then the sun took a step back, the leaves lulled themselves to sleep and Autumn was awakened."
Raquel Franco

As the sun begins to sink lower in the sky, even before we even notice the changing of colors with our eyes, our senses tell us the energy of summer is coming to a close.

The Autumn Equinox arrives for those in the Northern Hemisphere on September 22, 2022. The word “equinox” comes from Latin and means “equal night,” referring to the near-perfectly balanced 12-hour day and 12-hour night, which the Equinox brings.

This wondrous balance of nature signals a meaningful time of year for many. A time to honor the harvest - whether it is a harvest of things planted in your garden - or the harvest of efforts and intentions for your life, which you may have set earlier in the year.

This harvest season also signals us to begin preparations for the winter season. Collecting and storing enough nutrition to sustain us is the focus of harvest, whether literally or within ourselves. We seek the delicate balance between not too much, but enough to see us through. All the while, cultivating and protecting precious seeds which will allow for growth once again in the springtime.

Focusing on the culmination of growth each harvest brings, you might reflect on what worked well this year and what did not. What could you have done to ensure more growth? Perhaps this year’s harvest was beyond your expectations. What preparations might be done now to ensure an equally successful year ahead? Did you enjoy the process of growth this year? What would make the process more enjoyable in the future?

Nature continually reminds us, the end of one precious cycle begins the next. Here at the Foundation, we celebrate this season of harvest with you. May a bounty of health and happiness be yours and may all your harvest celebrations be blessed.

Be Well,
Your friends at the Healer Within Foundation

HWF Receives Ohio Falls Prevention Grant

Healer Within Foundation has been awarded a 2022 program grant through the Ohio Older Adult Falls Prevention Coalition. To date, HWF has received a total of $10,000 in grants from the Coalition. HWF is again proud to be one of only a select few projects selected through a highly competitive application process. By providing these grant dollars to diverse communities and organizations, the Coalition hopes to disseminate and increase opportunities for older adults to become actively engaged in evidence-based fall prevention strategies across Ohio.

The Ohio Older Adults Falls Prevention Coalition
Healer Within Foundation will use the funds to support, in part, the Tai Chi Easy Practice Leader Certification training to be held October 22-24, 2021 in Columbus, Ohio. New Practice Leaders receiving grant-funded training scholarships will be expected to lead virtual practice groups which serve those in their community. Additionally, the grant allows important research data to be collected from program participants. Click HERE for more information or to to register for the training.

Thank you to the project leaders and trainers, Annette Franks, Lori Candon and Antoinette Horn, (shown above, L to R) for securing the award. Our best wishes for great success during project implementation at the upcoming training and beyond!

 Research Corner

Please consider being part of important, active research currently being conducted! If you will be leading or participating in at least 6 weekly class sessions (in-person or virtual), we invite you to be a part of the HWF research initiative. The purpose of this research is to demonstrate the effectiveness of dissemination and benefits of a replicable Tai Chi and Qigong program for the general public.

The research is done through the completion of a short baseline survey along with answering a few simple  survey questions, before and after each class. Completing the responses also gives participants a chance to observe their own reactions to the practice and track their personal progress, too.

Interested? To learn more - or to access online survey links or printable survey documents - click HERE or contact HWF Research Team Chair, Ping Yang, for assistance.

Also of note on the research front is the new podcast from Qigong Institute. Qigong Today is an informative series from the non-profit Qigong Institute.
