Resolution Redux

And now we welcome the new year. Full of things that have never been." - Rainer Maria Rilke

Many begin the new year with resolutions. These include both formal - perhaps even public - declarations of lofty  goals but also, quiet, introspective, personal desires to simply “do better” in the coming 365 days.

We are warned frequently at this time of year to be realistic in our resolutions. Good advice! We also hear frequently, that many of our new year goals will fail to be achieved. Harsh commentary such as this may point to the reality of challenges we may face in our attempts to make good on a resolution. However, just because you may experience setbacks while working to achieve your resolutions doesn’t mean you should abandon hope. Question whether you will allow the obstacle to make you bitter or make you better?

Here are a few tips to help you transform potential stumbling blocks into springboards to success:

Hit “Pause” -
No matter what stressors or obstacles we might face, staying calm is usually the best action/reaction. Take a deep breath, collect yourself, and notice where the challenge is taking you before you make any decisions. It is easy to overreact to a setback while under stress, which often leads to over correction and can make things worse. When in doubt, pause.

Realize you are in good company -
Most all of the greatest achievers in our world faced setbacks before success. When you know that others have faced challenges and have still managed to come out ahead, it can be comforting. Taking some time to study how others have overcome can also help you achieve your goals. Draw on the experiences of others to find tools, techniques and motivation to help you get back on track.

Stay the course -
Don’t give up! It’s the oldest piece of advice out there, but for good reason. When you give up, you give bitterness power over betterment! Remain focused on solutions and simply try again.

Setbacks may mean you must start over with a resolution, but not that you have to give up your enthusiasm! When you stay calm and positive, you remain committed to your goals and open yourself up to great possibilities…in a new year or anytime!

Be well,
Your friends at the Healer Within Foundation

Tai Chi Easy™ Benefits Survey Research Project

Healer Within Foundation Board member, Ping Yang (pictured right), is spearheading the 2020 HWF Tai Chi Easy™ Benefits Survey Research project. If you will be leading a 6 to 8 week class session, we inviting you and your students to participate in this important research initiative.

The purpose of the research is to demonstrate the effectiveness of dissemination and benefits of a replicable Tai Chi and Qigong program for the general public. The research is done through the completion of a few simple survey questions, before and after each class. Completing the responses also give participants a chance to observe their own reactions to the practice and track their personal progress, too.

Instructors will receive a stipend for facilitating data collection, and participants names will be entered in a quarterly raffle drawing. Ping Yang and HWF will providing a Zoom webinar this month about the specifics of participation. Contact Christie Ward or Ping Yang to learn more.

Thanks To Our Donors

As we look back at the amazing growth we have experienced over the past few years, we wish to thank our donors for their continued support. So much of what we do could not be achieved without our generous contributors.

Contributions of any amount have a BIG impact. For instance:

  • A gift of $35 provides a one-week stipend to support a community practice group.
  • Just $75 can sponsor a raffle fundraiser which can raise hundreds of dollars.
  • A donation of $250 provides a partial scholarship for Tai Chi Easy™ Practice Leader training, and the scholarship recipient's pledge to establish a low-cost or freewill offering practice group in their community!

Your support makes it possible for the Healer Within Foundation to bring community-based Qigong/Tai Chi and other self-healing body-mind-spirit-practices to greater numbers of people. Please consider making a donation today!
