Summer Shift

August creates as she slumbers, replete and satisfied." -Joseph Wood Krutch

Many of us are currently focusing on organization and time management in our lives, as schools will soon go back in session and summer travel and frolics are coming to an end. The following are a few suggestions to make the transition a bit easier:

First, be intentional. Our brains are wired to function most effectively if we set goals. Write down goals for your health, your business, your spiritual life and all areas of life to help guide you in the direction of your objectives. The end of summer is a great time to start, block some time and set goals for the rest of the year!

Then, calendar everything. Whether you are scheduling meal plans, organizing kids' busy schedules or time for exercise, use a calendar both as a reminder system and a time management tool. We are more likely to keep appointments with ourselves, so scheduling helps keep us on track.

Also, look ahead at least a week in advance. Just a bit of forward thinking means we are less likely to live with a sense of constant urgency. Make a commitment to assess your long-term goals regularly, too. Be sure to ask yourself often if your goals and activities align with your personal values and sense of lifework or calling.

Finally, although not an organizational tip, this skill can be a difference maker when practiced regularly. Let one of  your goals be to focus on gratitude. A good time to do it is before you get out of bed in the morning, which is a great time to identify three things you are grateful for. Then, follow up with identifying three things you are grateful for at night just before bed. Nothing beats an attitude of gratitude...even on our busiest days!

A little planning can help set the course for your best life. Set goals, be intentional, be grateful. Begin today!

Be well,
Your friends at the Healer Within Foundation

Welcome New Staff Member!

We would like to welcome our new Director of Development & Engagement, Katherine Radakovich, pictured at right. A note from Katherine...

"Hello Healer Within Community! I’m thrilled to join the Healer Within Foundation team as the Director of Development & Engagement.

My background is in healthcare. I've been a registered dietitian for 20 years and a family nurse practitioner for 10 years. My professional goal has always been to help people find the tools they need to feel confident and competent, in making a positive impact on their health.

I was introduced to the Healer Within Foundation when I attended the April, 2018, Tai Chi Easy Practice Leader Certification training in Orlando, Florida. Those three days were transformative for me!  As I practiced and learned over the three days of the training, I began to appreciate the breathing, movements, imagery, self-massage, supportive instructors, the generous group dynamics and the beautiful space we were in and how the combination created a healing environment. I’ve used some of the techniques and principals with patients and have seen a difference in their sense of well-being.

I look forward to introducing the Healer Within Foundation to health-seekers, nurses, healthcare practitioners...everyone!"

Program Enrichment Team Meeting

If you are currently planning a Tai Chi Easy™ Practice Leader training event or are considering organizing an event in the future, please plan to join us via Zoom on Thursday, August 8 at 1:00pm PST/4:00pm EST for our Program Enrichment Team (PET) meeting.

PET meetings focus on the development and refinement of the procedures and protocols associated with producing a Tai Chi Easy™ Practice Leader training event. This forum not only allows HWF to share new information with training team members and local project managers, but allows these team members to share valuable lessons learned with one another. The feedback shared is invaluable and allows us all to improve and grow!

Our meeting this month will focus on best practices and planning for the time during the training event. We'll be joined by trainers who have recently held events who will share some of their "real-life", lessons leaned.

If you would like to attend, please contact Christie Ward for more information. Thank you!

Ohio Falls Prevention Grant

Earlier this year, the Healer Within Foundation was awarded a pilot program grant of nearly $4000 through the Ohio Older Adult Falls Prevention Coalition. HWF is proud to be one of only four pilot projects  selected through a highly competitive application process. By providing these grant dollars to diverse communities and organizations, the Coalition hopes to disseminate and increase opportunities for older adults to become actively engaged in evidence-based fall prevention strategies across Ohio.

The Ohio Older Adults Falls Prevention Coalition
The Healer Within Foundation will use the funds to support, in part, a 3-day Tai Chi Easy Practice Leader Certification training to be held at the University of Dayton, Riverside campus on November 1-3, 2019. New Practice Leaders receiving grant-funded training scholarships will be expected to lead two, 6-week Tai Chi Easy Community Practice Groups in their community and attend a three-month post education follow-up session.

Thank you to the project leaders: Antoinette Horn, Ping Yang and Christie Ward in securing the award and great success in project implementation!
